Dornach Castle in Saxen overlooks the Danube with distinctive neo-baroque architecture, first documented in 1416. Originally built by brothers Hans and Wenzel Lasperg, the fortress changed ownership several times, with the Zelking family adding an outer wall in the 16th century. The castle features a characteristic circular tower with raised entrance and a bergfried built during the Volkra family's ownership. After centuries of decline, the ruins underwent stylish restoration beginning in 1963, making it partly habitable once again and breathing new life into this Danube-bank landmark with Swedish writer August Strindberg among its notable historical residents.
