CASTLES MARIA ENZERSDORF

Castle Liechtenstein in Maria Enzersdorf, Lower Austria, holds profound historical and dynastic significance as the ancestral seat of the House of Liechtenstein and the ruling family of the Principality of Liechtenstein. Originally built in the 12th century, the castle was destroyed during Ottoman sieges in 1529 and 1683 but was rebuilt in 1884 from its ruins. Set on the edge of the Wienerwald (Viennese Forest) approximately 15 kilometers south of Vienna, the castle preserves over 60 percent of its original Romanesque structural elements dating to 1130, making it one of Austria's finest examples of medieval secular architecture. Today, Castle Liechtenstein operates as a lived-in private residence with a long-standing tradition of guided tours dating back to 1812. The castle hosts the annual Nestroy Theatre Festival during summer months and welcomes visitors with themed experiences and panoramic views over Vienna.

Schloss Hunyadi is an 18th-century Baroque castle in Maria Enzersdorf, a municipality in Vienna's Wienerwald region. Built in the mid-18th century for Vienna merchant Joseph Patuzzi, the three-winged complex was constructed on former manor grounds. Empress Maria Theresa confirmed the manor privilege in 1766, legitimizing its status. The castle acquired its name from Count Koloman Hunyadi, who served as imperial master of ceremonies and owned the estate from 1876 to 1901. Today, Schloss Hunyadi functions as a modern event center hosting concerts, exhibitions, poetry readings, weddings, and seminars, complemented by an on-site restaurant providing catering services for festivities and municipal functions.
