Schloss Trautenfels, founded in 1261 as Neuhaus Castle, is a Gothic and Baroque palace perched on a cliff protrusion at the foot of Grimming mountain overlooking the Enns River in Liezen. The castle represents the cultural and natural heritage of the region and operates as a department of the Universalmuseum Joanneum, Austria's second-largest museum. Its collection encompasses over 42,000 artifacts spanning cultural history, natural science, and decorative arts. The castle features the sumptuous Marble Hall, richly decorated State Rooms, and the renowned Antler Room of the Counts of Lamberg, along with a distinctive spiral stairway made partly of piano keys. Panoramic views from the tallest tower complement an immersive experience of Styrian heritage.
