Kobersdorf Castle in the Burgenland market town of Kobersdorf represents a remarkable blend of medieval and baroque architecture, built between 1222–1229 on the foundation of earlier defensive fortifications. The Weisspriach family expanded it during the Renaissance, and Count Johann Kéry completed baroque embellishments by 1648, including the impressive Imperator's Hall. Despite devastating fires in 1707 and 1790, the castle was restored beginning in 1963 by Austria's pioneering female architect Martha Bolldorf-Reitstätter. Today it hosts the renowned Schlossspiele Kobersdorf summer festival, featuring theatrical performances and concerts in its spectacular rooms and picturesque gardens.
