Burg Kaprun crowns a dramatic ridge above Kaprun in the Salzburg Alps, dominating the Pinzgau valley since its 12th-century construction as a Romanesque fortress. Originally held by the Bavarian lords of Falkenstein-Neuburg and later Archbishop Rudolf von Hoheneck of Salzburg, the castle eventually passed through the hands of the Felben family and, from 1921, private owners including diplomat Heinrich E. Gildemeister. Following years of deterioration, the Burgverein Kaprun dedicated itself to restoration, transforming the medieval structure into a vibrant event venue. Today it accommodates weddings, corporate gatherings, and celebrations for up to 350 guests, operates guided tours during summer months, and features a small museum exploring the region's rich heritage.
