Burgruine Hohenegg crowns Dunkelsteinerwald in Lower Austria's Hafnerbach district, with roots tracing to 1140. Originally an important medieval manor, the castle underwent Renaissance transformation between 1584 and 1594 under Freiherr Albrecht von Enenkel, then received baroque modifications including a distinctive seven-story bell tower from Prince Raimund Montecuccoli. Following decades of decay, committed restoration efforts since the 1970s have stabilized the structure. Now managed by the Burg Hohenegg association, the castle serves as an event venue accommodating up to 150 guests, blending medieval heritage with modern cultural use.
