Wasserschloss Burgau is a historically significant moated castle in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district of Styria, first documented in 1367. Originally constructed as a defensive water fortress surrounded by expansive moats, it served as a strategically important border stronghold protected by the nearby Lafnitz and Loben rivers. The castle changed hands through prominent families including the Polheims and Counts Trauttmannsdorff, who held it from 1665–1753. Since the municipality acquired it in 1871, Wasserschloss Burgau has evolved into a vibrant cultural venue hosting exhibitions, guided tours, weddings, seminars, concerts, theatrical performances, and contemporary art displays throughout the year.
