CASTLES AMSTETTEN

Ulmerfeld Castle near Amstetten represents an important center of medieval authority dating to its construction in 1321 under Bishop Konrad III. This castle originally served as both the bishop's residence and administrative seat for the Hochstift Freising's Alpine territories, with its Palas housing chambers for the bishop, caretaker, and castle governor. Early 17th-century frescoes grace the portico, reflecting the castle's long artistic heritage. After comprehensive restoration beginning in 1985, the castle now hosts concerts, theater performances, and film festivals in its romantic arcaded courtyard during summer months. The castle includes a historical weapons collection spanning from Celtic and Hallstatt cultures through the early 19th century, displayed in the castle tower, while fine art exhibitions occupy the upper floors. It also operates as a youth hostel with 62 beds.

Schloss Seisenegg is a Renaissance castle located in Viehdorf near Amstetten in Lower Austria's Mostviertel region. The fortification dates from the early 14th century, modernized during the 16th and 17th centuries while retaining its fortified character. Notable features include a Gothic chapel from the 14th century and a festive knights' hall with period architectural details. The castle is available for special occasions and event hosting, opening seasonally from May to September for celebrations and guided tours. Group visits limited to 10 people are accommodated by telephone reservation, making it a distinctive venue for weddings and private events within the picturesque Mostviertel landscape.
