Halidzor Fortress stands on a hillside overlooking the Voghji River near Kapan in Armenia's Syunik Province, at an elevation of 1,051 metres. Originally built as a nunnery by Armenian meliks in the 17th century, it gained prominence during the 18th century as the headquarters and administrative center of David Bek and Mkhitar Sparapet, legendary Armenian military leaders fighting Ottoman and Iranian forces. The fortress served as the site of the significant Battle of Halidzor in 1727, and David Bek died there in 1728, earning a burial in the castle's cemetery. Portions of the original fortress walls and structures survive intact, offering visitors tangible evidence of its medieval military and administrative heritage.
