Qala-e-Bost is an ancient fortification near Lashkar Gah in Helmand Province with roots extending back approximately 3,000 years. Located at the confluence of the Helmand and Arghandab rivers, this monumental site served as a winter capital and strategic military-commercial center during the Ghaznavid and Ghori empires. The fortress features massive brick archways and ancient ramparts offering commanding views over the Helmand floodplain. Its most iconic monument is the Ghori-era mihrab, which appears on Afghanistan's 100-Afghani currency note, making Qala-e-Bost an enduring symbol of the nation's Islamic heritage and architectural achievement.
