Walton Castle

Walton Castle is a Grade II listed mock castle built circa 1620 in Clevedon, North Somerset, designed as a hunting lodge for Lord John Poulett, a wealthy landowner and Member of Parliament. The structure occupies an Iron Age hill fort site referenced in the Domesday Book, blending medieval heritage with 17th-century architectural vision through an octagonal keep spanning three floors plus cellar, complemented by a two-storey porch and polygonal stair turret. After deteriorating into ruins by the 1790s, comprehensive restoration began in 1979. Today, Walton Castle sits within nearly four acres of scenic countryside adjacent to Clevedon Golf Club and features luxurious wedding suites and bedrooms housed within eight atmospheric turrets, offering panoramic views across North Somerset and serving as an exclusive venue for weddings, corporate events, and holiday rentals.
