The Venetian Tower of Durrës, known as Kulla Veneciane, is a 15th-century cylindrical defensive structure strategically positioned at the harbor's edge to protect the city from maritime threats. Built by the Venetian Republic during their rule of Durazzo, this artillery tower features a 16-meter diameter, 9-meter height, and remarkably thick 3.70-meter walls equipped with turrets and alcoves. Its internal cylindrical staircase leads to ammunition depots and rooftop positions for cannon defense. Recently renovated in 2022-2023, the tower now serves as Albania's first Heritage Interpretation Center, featuring immersive virtual reality and video presentations exploring Durrës's Byzantine fortress heritage and maritime history.
