Tromora Castle

Tromora (Tromra) Castle stands near Quilty on County Clare's Atlantic coast, overlooking waters where Spanish Armada sailors perished in 1588. Built in the 1400s, likely for the Teige O'Brien clan, the castle has earlier roots dating to at least 1215. Ownership changed multiple times through centuries of political upheaval, passing from the Earl of Thomond to Samuel Burton in 1660, then to the O'Briens by 1901. The castle's stone ruins remain a sentinel on the Clare coast, marking a site of sustained historical importance across five centuries.
