Tretower Court and Castle near Crickhowell showcases nearly 900 years of Welsh medieval history. The site features a sturdy Norman circular keep with a 15th-century fortified manor house, illustrating the transition from military stronghold to country residence. Built by Sir Roger Vaughan during the Wars of the Roses, Tretower became a celebrated center of Welsh culture where medieval poets gathered. The meticulously restored great hall evokes the lavish feasts of the 1460s, while the original bailey and restored court gardens provide visitors with vivid glimpses into late-medieval Welsh aristocratic life. Now managed by Cadw, the site remains one of Wales's finest examples of architectural evolution.
