Torre del Perdigal is an 18th-century watchtower standing near the beach southwest of Retamar in Almería province, part of Spain's Mediterranean coastal defense network established after Barbary pirate threats in the 16th century. Though traditionally dated to the late 16th century, some historians suggest Moorish origins from the 13th century. The tower remains in good condition and is protected as a Cultural Interest Asset under Spanish historical heritage law, offering free public access. Its strategic coastal position once enabled communication with neighboring fortifications to coordinate early warning systems against maritime threats.
