Torre de Cobejo

Torre de Cobejo, also known as the Castle of the Moors, is a 14th-century defensive tower in Molledo, Cantabria, featuring a rectangular plan measuring 12.5 by 15 metres with distinctive four-metre-thick walls. Originally constructed to collect tolls on goods entering the Asturias of Santillana, the structure contains an underground passage but lacks windows or traditional doors, emphasizing its defensive purpose. The tower's strategic location controlled regional commerce and movement through mountain passages. Recently added to Cantabria's Red List of Heritage in Danger, this medieval structure requires urgent conservation to preserve its significance as a rare example of 14th-century Cantabrian fortifications.
