Torre de Campelles

Torre de Campelles rises strategically on a hilltop in the village of Campelles, Ripollès comarca, Girona, commanding panoramic 360-degree views of the Vall de Ribes and the Pyrenean landscape. Constructed beginning in the late 12th century during conflicts between the kingdoms of Aragon and Mallorca, the medieval tower served as a crucial defensive stronghold protecting the mountain valley. The fortification features two smaller adjacent towers, or bestorres, each retaining multiple loopholes and distinctive architectural elements from its medieval construction. Recent archaeological excavations have uncovered important details of the tower's history and design in preparation for ongoing reconstruction efforts aimed at making the monument fully accessible and allowing visitors to experience both the architectural heritage and spectacular mountain vistas from this culturally significant location.
