Steinabrunn Castle

Steinabrunn Castle is a Renaissance water castle located in Großmugl in Lower Austria, approximately 45 kilometres northwest of Vienna. The castle represents part of a historical chain of fortifications that protected settlement along disputed frontiers over more than 1000 years, defending against invasions by Huns, Avars, Hungarians, and later Ottoman and European armies. With its first documented owner being Dietrich von Steineprun, the castle exemplifies the strategic defensive architecture of the region. Today, the privately-owned castle is viewable from the exterior, and its historical significance as a regional landmark makes it a point of interest for visitors to the Korneuburg area.
