Squire's Castle

Squire's Castle is a Romanesque Revival gatehouse in Willoughby Hills, Ohio, built around 1895 for a grand English country estate that was never completed. Constructed by Feargus B. Squire, a Standard Oil executive, the castle was intended as a gatekeeper's house for a vast 525-acre River Farm Estate. After Squire's retirement and subsequent property sale in 1922, the Cleveland Metroparks acquired the land, preserving the stone structure as a public attraction. Today this free historic site sits within the North Chagrin Reservation and offers visitors a glimpse into early 20th-century architectural ambition, its dramatic towers standing as a symbol of dreams left unfulfilled yet architecturally preserved.
