Shahbulag Castle

Shahbulag Castle, meaning "Spring of the Shah," is an 18th-century fortress built in 1751-1752 by Karabakh Khan Panah Ali near Ağdam, Azerbaijan. Constructed with roughly-hewn stones reinforced with circular and semi-cylindrical towers, the compact rectangular structure served as the administrative center of the Karabakh khanate before the Bayat fortress. Located about 10 kilometers from Ağdam, Shahbulag's distinctive architecture influenced later regional designs, particularly in nearby Shusha. The fortress remains a valuable cultural monument and has undergone restoration in recent decades, preserving its historical significance as a testament to 18th-century Azerbaijani military architecture.
