Schloss Thor

Schloss Thor, also known as Château Thor, is a castle complex in Astenet, Lontzen, located in Belgium's German-speaking region. The castle was established on the site of a former brewhouse of Astenet Castle, commissioned in 1700 by Johann Heyendal, a wealthy tax collector from the Duchy of Limburg. The distinctive gate building, constructed in 1733 according to designs by architect Johann Joseph Couven, gives the estate its name. The castle presents a stately white façade with an ornamental tower crowned by battlements and an elegant gate building. Protected as a historic monument since 1987, Schloss Thor has operated as a small hotel since 1947, offering visitors a rare glimpse into 18th-century architectural heritage in the region.
