Schiltern Castle

Schiltern Castle is a formidable four-towered complex in Langenlois, Lower Austria, built at the turn of the 16th and 18th centuries on foundations dating to the 10th century. Originally a farmstead, the fortress underwent significant transformation during the Thirty Years' War and subsequently saw numerous changes in ownership before Count Karl Wolfgang Aichelburg acquired it in 1856. The municipality purchased the castle in 1929, and by 1930 the English Ladies established educational institutions there that continue operating today. In 1987, the building complex was comprehensively renovated into the Psychosoziale Zentrum Schiltern, a psychotherapeutic rehabilitation facility. The castle grounds also feature the Schiltern Model Railway World, displaying Austrian landscapes and thousands of figures in intricate 1:87 scale detail, making it a unique destination blending historical architecture with contemporary cultural attractions.
