Roughan Castle

Roughan Castle is a three-storey fortification built around 1618 by Sir Andrew Stewart, featuring a central tower measuring 20 feet square flanked by thick rounded corner towers, located a mile outside Newmills near Dungannon in County Tyrone. The castle overlooks Roughan Lough on the Dungannon to Stewartstown road and holds historical significance as the refuge of Irish Rebellion leader Phelim O'Neill in 1641. Now a State Care Historic Monument managed by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, the castle stands within the grounds of Roughan Castle Residential Home.
