Pratt's Castle

Pratt's Castle is a striking medieval castle replica located in an Elgin, Illinois residential neighborhood, built in 1937 by Harold S. Pratt, a passionate medieval history enthusiast. Inspired by a castle Pratt observed along the Rhine River during World War I service, the fortress features impressive architectural elements including a towering fifty-foot tower, a miniature moat, and a functional drawbridge. Originally, the castle housed Pratt's personal collection of medieval artifacts displayed as a private museum within its walls. Though the collection has since been relocated, the castle remains privately owned and stands as a distinctive residential landmark. Visitors are encouraged to view the striking structure from the nearby bike path while respecting the residents' privacy.
