Pottendorf Castle

Pottendorf Castle is a striking example of Austrian medieval architecture, originally constructed as a moated fortress around 1090 and transformed into a Baroque palace during the 18th century. The fortress features a three-storey Romanesque structure surrounded by a square courtyard, showcasing Renaissance and Baroque design elements. The Esterházy family, prominent noble patrons, left their heraldic mark on the arched portal, a testament to centuries of aristocratic ownership. Since 2005, the castle ruins have been owned by the municipality of Pottendorf, which is gradually revitalizing the site while its surrounding landscape park remains open for public visits.
