Portumna Castle and Gardens is a stately 17th-century Jacobean stronghold built in 1618 by Richard De Burgo in the town of Portumna, County Galway, commanding panoramic views of Lough Derg. The estate features formally designed geometrically-laid gardens including the Lady's Garden with heritage rose plantings, a Willow Maze with espalier fruit trees, and a restored 17th-century kitchen garden organically planted with herbs and vegetables. Located beside the River Shannon and adjacent to Portumna Forest Park, the castle complex offers visitor amenities including a tea room, picnic areas, playgrounds, and car parking. The castle is open seasonally from mid-March through early November.
