Polhawn Fort

Polhawn Fort is a Grade II listed defensive fortress built on the Cornish coast near Torpoint, originally constructed in the 1860s to guard against a potential Napoleonic invasion that never materialized. The fort crowns a dramatic clifftop position overlooking Whitsand Bay and features a protected private cove with beach facilities. Located on historic Rame Head, where the medieval Saint Michael's chapel stands nearby—one of the earliest lighthouse chapels where monks maintained navigation lights for maritime safety—Polhawn Fort represents Victorian military heritage. Over the past 30 years, the fortress has been thoughtfully converted into an exclusive-use venue offering eight spacious suites, combining its substantial historical architecture with contemporary hospitality amenities while preserving its Grade II listed status.
