Schloss Petronell-Carnuntum is a four-wing Baroque palace complex in Lower Austria, built atop an 11th-century foundation. Designed by Dominio Carlone around 1615 for the Abensperg-Traun family, the castle presents a unified Baroque aesthetic incorporating columns, capitals, and gravestones salvaged from nearby Roman archaeological sites. Following a devastating Turkish raid that set it ablaze in 1683, the castle was comprehensively rebuilt by 1690. Its centerpiece is a magnificent Knights' Hall adorned with frescoes, and a beautiful arcaded courtyard features a water basin. The Abensperg-Traun family maintains ownership today.
