Pallas Castle

Pallas Castle is a five-storey tower house and National Monument located near Tynagh in County Galway, representing one of Ireland's finest examples of late 15th and early 16th-century fortified residences. Built around 1500 by the Burke family (descendants of the Norman de Burghs), the castle features an elaborate bawn wall with corner towers and a two-storey gatehouse. Though its first documented owner in 1574 was executed for rebellion against Elizabeth I, the castle subsequently passed through ownership by the Nugent and Trench families before achieving National Monument status in 1934.
