Ottenstein Castle crowns the northern shore of the Ottenstein Kamp reservoir, a remarkably preserved medieval fortress originally built in the 12th century. The castle's Romanesque chapel features extraordinary vaulted ceilings decorated with monumental frescoes dating to approximately 1170. The castle withstood two sieges during the Thirty Years' War and now functions as a hotel and restaurant, hosting art exhibitions, antique fairs, and providing visitors access to its meticulously maintained gardens and surrounding hiking trails.
