Ochsenburg Castle

Schloss Ochsenburg rises majestically from a 30-meter rocky outcrop above the Traisen River in Sankt Pölten's southernmost district, commanding strategic views across the landscape. The medieval stronghold of the Lords of Ochsenburg underwent Renaissance transformation during the 16th century and received Baroque additions including a distinctive south wing built around 1698 under architect Jakob Prandtauer. Historical guests have included composer Franz Schubert and artist Moritz von Schwind in 1821. Following World War II recovery, Ochsenburg now serves as the summer residence of the Bishop of Sankt Pölten and is available for rental for celebrations, offering visitors opportunities to experience its architectural heritage and dramatic riverside setting during special events.
