Muralla de Peñaranda de Duero is a medieval defensive wall integral to one of Spain's most picturesque historic towns, perched on the Arandilla River in southern Burgos. Once encircling nearly the entire settlement, the wall originally connected the palace of the counts to the castle, with its oldest sections visible from Padre Vélez and Arias Miranda streets. Two of three original gates, including the Arco de las Monjas, remain intact providing access to the Plaza Mayor. The southern third features five casemates and a preserved arch gateway. This well-preserved medieval structure, alongside a 15th-century castle dominating rocky heights, exemplifies the integrated defensive systems protecting historic Castilian settlements and maintains the town's remarkable medieval character.
