Mugdock Castle

Mugdock Castle, situated in Mugdock Country Park northwest of Glasgow, was the principal stronghold of Clan Graham from the mid-13th century. The castle's origins trace to David de Graham, who acquired the lands from the Earl of Lennox around the 13th century, though the surviving stone structures date primarily to the 14th century or later. The Grahams held significant power, eventually becoming Earls of Montrose in 1505. A 19th-century mansion on the site burned in 1966, but the castle ruins remain accessible within the country park. Now jointly managed by Stirling and East Dunbartonshire Councils and designated a scheduled ancient monument by Historic Environment Scotland, Mugdock offers visitors a chance to explore the heritage of one of Scotland's most powerful clans amid scenic countryside.
