Mola Fortress

Mola Fortress, officially known as the Fortress of Isabel II, is a major 19th-century military complex located on the Mola peninsula at the entrance to Mahón's port on the island of Menorca. Constructed between 1849 and 1875 during the reign of Queen Isabella II, this fortress represents one of Europe's most significant mid-19th-century military installations with advanced engineering designed to defend the strategic Mediterranean position. The fortress features two massive 15-inch naval guns installed in 1933-1934 capable of covering distances up to 35 kilometers, and its robust fortifications showcase the naval technology and strategy of that era. Today the site functions as a historical monument offering self-guided tours, guided tours, buggy tours, and evening visits that allow visitors to explore the complex's architectural and military heritage.
