Maglajska tvrđava

Maglajska Tvrđava (Maglaj Fortress) is one of the largest and most heavily fortified medieval structures in Bosnia's Bosna River valley, perched majestically on a hill overlooking the town of Maglaj. First documented by name in 1408, the fortress features a central watchtower surrounded by stone walls, with Ottoman-era additions including bastions and an elaborate access system. Destroyed in 1697 by Prince Eugene of Savoy during the Great Turkish War, it was rapidly rebuilt and adapted for modern warfare. The fortress sustained significant damage during the 1992-1995 Bosnian War but has been restored in recent years. Designated a national monument in 2005, it represents Bosnia's multicultural heritage and architectural resilience across centuries.
