Ludlow Castle is a partly ruined medieval fortress described as one of England's finest medieval ruins, prominently overlooking the River Teme in Shropshire and controlling the Welsh Borders as a crucial strategic stronghold. During the Middle Ages it served as the seat of English government in Wales, and today remains a Grade I listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument owned by the Trustees of the Powis Castle Estate.
