Lordscairnie Castle

Lordscairnie Castle is a ruined 15th-century tower standing near Moonzie, northeast of Cupar in Fife, constructed around 1500 by Alexander Lindsay of Auchtermoonzie, a descendant of the Earls of Crawford who have held the Cairnie property since 1355. The castle rises four storeys with an attic and features an impressive L-plan design with a stair-wing added in the 16th century, complete with machicolation above the entrance and thick stone walls measuring 5-6 feet wide. Originally situated on an islet in a loch, it is now privately owned but accessible for visitors, and according to local folklore, the castle is said to be haunted by the Earl of Crawford who allegedly plays cards with the devil on New Year's Eve.
