Lisgriffin Castle

Lisgriffin Castle, whose name means Griffin's Fort in Irish, was built by General Garret Barry between 1605 and 1610 in County Cork. The castle served as a stronghold during periods of significant political turmoil, including the Eighty Years' War and Irish Confederate Wars, before being seized prior to the 1641 Rebellion. It later came under various ownership, including the Grove family of Cahirduggan in 1657. Today, only the west wall remains visible standing in a field approximately 5.6 kilometres west of Buttevant village, a testament to the castle's centuries of turbulent history.
