The Château Comtal de Rochefort, centered in Rochefort's town square within Namur province, traces its origins to 1155 and hosted illustrious families including the Montaigu, Stolberg, and Marck lineages. Originally the largest fortress of the Famenne region, the castle was thoroughly rebuilt in 1746 into a palatial residence, with the medieval keep demolished and replaced by a large esplanade featuring ten arches and a French garden. The site today divides into two sections: the medieval castle ruins open seasonally to visitors, and a more recent castle structure. This historic site remains significant for its archaeological interest and role in regional medieval history.
