Lennox Castle

Lennox Castle is a striking neo-Norman structure designed by architect David Hamilton and built between 1837 and 1841 from red sandstone near Glasgow. Originally a private residence, it served as a military hospital during World War I before becoming a major psychiatric institution in 1936 with capacity for 1,200 patients. The castle featured distinctive architecture with a five-story tower and extensive grounds, though it deteriorated significantly by the 1980s and closed in 2002. Today, the original castle building remains abandoned, but portions of its grounds now house Celtic Football Club's training facility, creating an intriguing juxtaposition of historical significance and modern use.
