Leamaneh Castle

Leamaneh Castle stands as a striking ruin in the Burren region of County Clare, comprising a 15th-century tower house built around 1480 by Turlough Donn Ó Briain and a 17th-century four-storey mansion added in 1648 by Conor O'Brien and his wife Máire Rua MacMahon. The castle's name derives from Irish folklore meaning "the horse's leap" or "the deer's leap," reflecting its dramatic isolated setting. Though abandoned since the eighteenth century and closed to interior access for structural safety, the atmospheric ruins remain a striking landmark visible across the Burren landscape, offering a compelling glimpse into medieval and early modern Irish history.
