La Chapa Battery is a coastal defense fortification completed in 1930, perched on Punta de la Chapa headland overlooking Portmán Bay near Cartagena. Equipped with four powerful Vickers 152.4 mm cannons, the battery played an active role during the Spanish Civil War, including the nationalist attack on the bay in March 1939. This neoclassical structure features unique ammunition depots and served until 1994. Current restoration efforts address preservation and access, with overgrown areas being repaired and period details carefully maintained.
