Katzelsdorf Castle, a 12th-century fortress set at the foot of the Rosalia Mountains on the Leitha River near Wiener Neustadt, boasts a storied past under such illustrious residents as Napoleon's sister and the Duchess of Bourbon-Este. Its present form emerged under Wolf Mathias Freiherr von Königsberg's stewardship during the castle's formative centuries. After World War II service as a horse hospital, the municipality acquired and transformed it into a vibrant regional cultural and event center in 1993. Today the castle hosts concerts, theater performances, seminars, exhibitions, and weddings, while its annual Christmas market draws visitors with artisan crafts and festive courtyard celebrations.
