Kasteeldomein van Leut

Kasteel van Leut, also known as Kasteel Vilain XIIII, is a protected historic castle estate located in Maasmechelen, Belgium, near the border with the Netherlands along the Maas River valley. Originating from a 13th-century fortress built by the Van Tongeren family, the castle acquired its present name in 1822 when Charles Vilain XIIII, a prominent Belgian diplomat and later Minister of Foreign Affairs, married into the estate. The castle complex comprises the main residence, service buildings, and surrounding parkland as part of a protected cultural historical landscape. Over the centuries, the estate has served various purposes including as a hospital and nursing home. The castle is open for visits during the summer months.
