Kasteel Herlaar

Kasteel Herlaar, also known as Hof ten Hove, is a double-moated water castle in Herenthout dating to at least the late 13th century, possibly earlier. The castle blends brick and sandstone construction with 19th-century neotraditionalist and neogothic modifications, featuring twin gatehouse towers with battlements, an L-shaped main dwelling, and period details like decorative anchors and corbelled arches. Entered via two wooden drawbridges, the estate includes an on-site chapel dating to at least 1494 with interior 18th-century marble fireplaces and ceiling decorations. The castle received official heritage designation in 2019 and sits within the protected Valley of the Wimp and the Grote Nete landscape.
