Kasteel Expoel in Hombeek represents centuries of aristocratic estate ownership and architectural evolution. The castle traces its lineage to the 13th century but achieved its current form through major renovations around 1717 when Balthazar IV Moretus converted it into a refined summer residence. The estate name derives from its first documented owner, Jan de Axpole, whose wife Catharina Raduwaerts held the property. The extensive landscape park features an 18th-century castle at its center surrounded by 27 hectares encompassing English and French gardens, historic ice cellars, sculptural ponds, and ancient tree specimens connected by winding pathways.
