Kasteel Cortewalle is a Flemish Renaissance moated castle built in white sandstone, likely dating to the 15th century when the Triest family ruled as Lords of Walle. The four-winged manor design encircled by a water moat exemplifies dual functionality as both defensive stronghold and noble residence. After passing through successive noble families—including the Goubau and De Bergeyck families—the castle was acquired by Beveren municipality in 1960. Today it serves as a local history museum housing the extensive De Bergeyck archives and family records, with the former orangery and depot building now operating as a restaurant, preserving heritage while remaining accessible to the public.
