Kasteel Borgwal

Kasteel Borgwal stands as a distinguished 16th-century castle estate spanning 18 hectares in Gavere, East Flanders, in the center of historic Vurste. The complex comprises a castle, farmyard with dovecot, and a monumental neo-baroque entrance gate, all encompassed by a 1,700-meter brick wall that defines the property boundary. Originally documented in 1538 and later refined during the 18th century, the domain hosted notable residents including Bishop Antonius Triest, who used it as a country retreat. After becoming private property in 2012, the estate underwent comprehensive restoration from 2013–2015, transforming the preserved farm buildings into a welcoming inclusive cultural space. Today, the 18-hectare domain serves as a wheelchair-accessible walking area, blending historic preservation with contemporary community engagement in the Flemish countryside.
