Innerwick Castle

Innerwick Castle is a 15th-century ruined fortress perched on a rocky crag above the Thornton Burn near Dunbar in East Lothian, overlooking a precipitous glen with strategic views across the landscape. Originally built in the 14th century as a stronghold of the Stewarts and Hamilton family, the castle withstood a 1406 siege but was damaged by the Duke of Somerset in 1548, resulting in the reduced remains visible today. Though little more than vaults and ruined walls survive, the castle's dramatic hilltop setting and role in defending against English invasion underscore its historical importance to the Scottish Borders.
