Inchdrewer Castle

Inchdrewer Castle is a 16th-century L-plan tower house, five storeys tall, situated 3.5 miles southwest of Banff in Aberdeenshire, with sweeping coastal views over Banff Bay. Built around 1542 by Sir Walter Ogilvie, it features a distinctive circular stair tower and 17th-century wing additions. The Ogilvies became its principal family seat and devoted Royalists; the castle was attacked by Covenanters in 1640. Though partially restored in the 1970s following 1963 acquisition by Robin Mirrlees de la Lanne, it remains an atmospheric shell and Category A listed building standing amid golden fields.
